It’s amazing sometimes the roads and paths that graduates of the University of Akron’s Department of Marketing embark after they leave the comfy confines of the 5th floor of the Polsky Building. A good example of this is alum Mark Anderson. Anderson is a class of 2016 Marketing Management major. Not only has he had success as a marketer, working at OuterBox, a local digital marketing agency, Mark has also achieved success away from his work desk, as a musician better known as LuvAbstract.

In a recent article in The Akron Devil Strip, LuvAbstract shared how much of an influence Akron and the University of Akron has influenced his music and sound, “I’m a University of Akron graduate. It’s [the city] where my friends told me to follow my music. I mean, my first show was in Akron. Literally, Akron has made me into the artist and person that I am.”

Professionally, LuvAbstract has preferred to use his stage name when promoting his music. However, I reached out to him this week, leading up to his gig at this year’s Signal Tree Fest, and asked if we could promote the fact that he was a graduate of the College of Business Administration and the Department of Marketing. Mark/LuvAbstract was more than happy to allow us to share his story and the path that he has taken post-graduation. Mark is super appreciative of what The University of Akron has done for him in both of his “jobs.”

LuvAbstract will be performing at this year’s Signal Tree Festival is taking place at Lock 3 and Lock 4 this Saturday (August 11). The event takes place all day, but he is scheduled to perform at 4:40. The event is free and family friendly – so why not support a fellow Zip and other Akron area bands and musicians.
