We are starting a new video series on Where Theory Meets Practice called Taste Tested. The premise is pretty simple – we taste test products that have been developed with marketing in mind. This can and will include product extensions of items we are already familiar with – like the new flavors of Diet Coke. Or products that are developed clearly to keep up with marketing trends. A good example of this is the Pumpkin Spice products that come out every fall. We can thank Starbucks and their Pumpkin Spice Latte for that one. In fact, we already did a taste test around products flavored as “pumpkin spice” last semester. Here is the link to that video.
Speaking of Diet Coke, you may have heard, they have launched some new flavors that according to the Coke folks – these products are specifically aimed at the millennial consumer. And Coke has no problem sharing that. You may have also read Alex Siminoff’s blog post about this last month. We decided to do something about it. So, if you are skeptical about laying down the cash for these new flavors – don’t worry we have come to assist. And since we are a university, chock-full of millennial consumers – we tested the new flavors for you. Our expert panel included a group of current University of Akron Zips and some former Zips and here are the results.
