We are doing something a little different this week. Instead of the regular weekly post that Alex does on advertising or marketing trends, cool commercials, or the latest tool for marketers, we are posting a fun video we did a couple of weeks ago with our friends Patrick and Bob from Monsters Unlimited.

Starbucks launched the Pumpkin Spice Latte in the Fall of 2004. And since then, the world has experienced a slow crescendo of “pumpkin spiced” flavored food to where we are today. It is impossible to visit an American grocery store and not be inundated with products with this trendy flavoring as you walk down the aisles. Every section of the store has a pumpkin spiced flavored whatever. From Cheerios to cream cheese, it’s impossible to avoid them. But, the big question is, “How do these products taste?” In order to help you make wise consumer decisions – we are going to taste them for you.

We tasted both sweet and savory products that advertise themselves to be “pumpkin spice.” But as you will see in the video – all is not as it seems. The level of pumpkin “spiciness” varies from product to product and in some cases, you really must work to get any pumpkin flavor/taste at all. We had a lot of fun doing the video and thank you again to Patrick and Bob. Also, check out the accompanying podcast from Speaking Human – Patrick is one of the hosts.

And as a special treat, here is a commercial that Starbucks did a few years ago about the Pumpkin Spice Latte.
