The Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing provides students at the University of Akron with a comfortable and fun learning environment. It’s very common to see students hanging around the front couches after their classes are over because they just like to be here. With around 600 students coming in the doors everyday it’s no surprise that student organizations like the American Marketing Association (AMA) would want to utilize the Taylor’s facilities and resources for their meetings and events. There is no better place to find superior marketing students who are passionate about what they are learning.

The AMA chapter at The University of Akron is a collaborative group where students can go to learn and meet new people. They not only focus on projects geared to sharpen the marketing skills of their members, but they also have social events and fundraisers giving back to the community.

When asked about the upcoming semester, Chapter President Jeremy Robinson was enthusiastic about what they have planned. Members will be fortunate enough to hear from two guest speakers – Ms. Katherine Miracle, President and Founder of Miracle Resources on October 29th about promoting your personal brand. Then from Mr. Darren Hudach, Head of the Neonatal Screening Business Unit at PerkinElmer on November 5th about leadership and how to run an effective business.

Giving back to the community is important to the AMA and they will be organizing three different fundraisers for local non-profits this school year. Their members will be divided into smaller groups and will plan and execute a marketing plan for each fundraiser. Be on the lookout later in the semester when they collect canned food, knit hats and toys.

The University of Akron’s AMA chapter will also participate in the national case competition and will submit their report to the National Collegiate Conference in New Orleans this March. Best of luck to them!

The American Marketing Association is a national organization full of professionals who work, teach and study in the field of marketing. They encourage and support collegiate chapters all over the country and help students to understand the importance of getting involved. Former President of the Cleveland Professional AMA Chapter, Jeffrey Staats gives his input about collegiate chapters:

“I have been on the Cleveland AMA Board for the past 6 years and I have always told our collegiate chapters to utilize our network whenever possible. When we host student chapters at our events, I have never seen a more welcoming crowd that is willing to help find internships and full-time jobs.
